At a time when equity, justice, and inclusion are being challenged, fair housing protections are more important—and more vulnerable—than ever. With key resources cut, the work to ensure every person has access to safe, fair, and inclusive housing is at risk.

Your voice, your engagement, and your support matter now more than ever. Stand with us as we continue the fight for fair and thriving communities.

STATE

Ohio Housing Trust Fund

The Ohio Housing Trust Fund is the state’s leading source of funding for local housing and homelessness services, providing vital support to help vulnerable Ohioans maintain stable housing.

FY 2024 Impact:

  • 849 households received homelessness prevention assistance

  • 2,600 households received rapid rehousing support

  • 27,094 individuals received emergency shelter

  • 2,696 households received permanent supportive housing

  • 1,559 households received transitional housing

Statehouse leaders must act now to protect the Ohio Housing Trust Fund (OHTF) and ensure it remains a strong, reliable resource for our communities.

Ohio Low-Income Housing Tax Credit

The Ohio Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (OLIHTC) program is designed to increase the supply of affordable housing across the state.

To meet the growing demand and ensure housing is accessible to all, we must strengthen and protect this vital program. Urge state leaders to prioritize and invest in the OLIHTC to support Ohio’s renters and communities.

FEDERAL

Fair Housing Funding Freeze

On February 27, Housing Opportunities Made Equal of Greater Cincinnati (HOME) was abruptly notified that its Private Enforcement Initiative (PEI) grant—one of its largest sources of fair housing funding—had been terminated effective immediately by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). As a result, HOME will be forced to scale back essential services, including fair housing counseling, investigations into illegal housing discrimination in rental, sales, and lending markets, and educational trainings for both consumers and housing providers on their rights and responsibilities under fair housing laws.

On March 25, Judge Richard G. Stearns of the U.S. District Court in Massachusetts issued a temporary injunction blocking the termination of 78 Fair Housing Initiatives Program (FHIP) grants, including HOME's. While this legal action is a step in the right direction, HOME’s funding status remains uncertain.

Contact your senators and representatives and urge them to demand an immediate reversal of the federal funding freeze and harmful Executive Orders that undermine efforts to advance DEI, as well as resuming payments to fair housing organizations with active grants.

Critical Fair Housing Enforcement Funding

Congress has begun work on the Fiscal Year (FY) 2026 appropriations process, which will determine funding for the nation’s fair housing enforcement programs.

As the country faces a growing affordable housing crisis, persistent discrimination, and rising homelessness, it is critical that Congress provides the highest possible funding levels for HUD and fully supports fair housing enforcement efforts.
